Alison Buchan-Grant has twenty years retail and design experience. Originally trained in fashion design, she took a postgraduate degree in clothing technology and has an innate love and knowledge of colour and fabrics. She worked in visual merchandising for the Viyella and Mondi fashion groups before moving into interior design.

“I want the clients home to look as beautiful as it can do on their budget. I enjoy using traditional designs with modern contemporary fabrics. My aim is to create an exciting window treatment or a room design that’s visually stunning and something the client will feel delighted and proud of for many years to come,” she says.

Alison offers the same expert help to a client wanting to dress a single window or those who need an entire house makeover. “The same elements go into creating one window as go into redecorating an entire house, Clients often start off doing a single window and then are so delighted with it they end up doing every other room!”

What customers think about Amber Interiors:

various“Thank you so much for your help and advice and of course the beautiful curtains, blinds and pelmets — they are fabulous and go so well with the wallpaper. I am so pleased with it all. I’ll start planning the dining room for later this year.” — Mrs Jameson, Wetherby Road, York.

“I needed new voiles for the children’s playroom and didn’t want to spend too much as I’d probably be replacing them again in a few years. Instead of pushing me towards expensive designer fabrics as others had done Alison suggested an off cut from her spring sale which she thought would be just big enough for our bay window. It was exactly what I wanted. She made up some fantastic Roman blinds which fitted perfectly and look fabulous. They were turned around in a week for less than half the price I’d been quoted elsewhere. All in all a fantastic, friendly and efficient service.” — Mrs M York

Lynn de Bruyn enlisted Alison's help when putting the final touches to two cottages she has recently developed in the North Yorkshire Moors village of Hutton Buscel.
“Visiting her shop is like visiting a sweet shop! It is an Aladdin's Cave of the most beautiful fabrics, of which she carries a hugely diverse range, together with their accessories — certainly enough to suit any taste. One of Alison's strengths, apart from her natural flair for design, was her ability to quickly understand my taste and the effect I was looking for. No matter what your taste or budget you should contact Alison.” — Lynn de Bruyn

“Alison took my ideas and guided me through the colour, fabric and design process to produce a truly beautiful pair of curtains for our period bay. The workmanship on the curtains and cushion covers is of a very high quality. The overall effect is to give the room a feeling of sophisticated colour and design along with a sense of warmth and comfort. We are very happy with the outcome and without doubt would use Alison to help us again” — Claire Douglas, York
